Keeping Your Computer Desktop Clean

In the office world, or even in the home world, there is nothing worse than a boring desktop. Your phones might not be working, your computers might be on battery power and your heating system could be on the fritz. However, if you have to weather a technological windstorm, if you have an awesome desktop screen-saver, your computer (even if it is on battery power) will be to you and everyone else as a beacon of light on the darkest night.

Though this description may be a bit hyperbolic, the point stands that having a clean and organized computer desktop can contribute towards you having a clean and organized workspace. As the interior decorators and feng shui experts say, if a space is designed well, it will contribute towards your productivity and overall peace of mind.

If you’ve ever been on someone else’s computer (or your own) and the first thing you see is a massive smattering of random files placed thoughtlessly around the desktop, the image that comes to mind is a desk scattered about with papers and files. There is no apparent sense of order. This further iterates the importance of desktop organization, both technological and literal.

Employing a simple and streamlined screen-saver is one way you can help yourself, or someone else, learn to keep a clean and organized workspace. This can sometimes mean programming your computer to shut off after a certain amount of time, conserving energy and visual stimulus. Or, it can mean investing in a well-integrated screensaver which contributes to the overall aesthetic of your workspace. This way, when you’re not using your computer or when you’re away from your desk, you are still maintaining a sense of appearance.

If you work for a small or a large company, a well-maintained appearance is just as important as providing quality service, especially in the middle of a windstorm.
