Sometimes you walk by someone else’s computer, only to see that their screensaver is way cooler than yours. And once you get back to your desk, you try to think of ways that you can make your screensaver the most popular at your office, even if it means you need to work less in order to show up your coworker. As you are doing this, you might stop to think about how a screensaver works. Since most computer systems are pretty helpful in putting one up on your computer, it seems like it works like magic. But…not quite.
Turning on a Screensaver
Based on the settings that you have set when you chose your screensaver, your computer has to do a number of things to respond. First things first, it has to as if it can run the screensaver. This question is posed of the foreground application In order to get the screensaver to respond favorably, all of the other programs need to agree that the process can begin. This will allow the screensaver to begin its own process of starting the images on the screen. In a PC, the computer will look a the line SCRNSAVE.EXE in the system ini file. This will allow the computer to find the screen saver that you have chosen to be chosen. Duh.
Checking Up on You
You will then notice that the screensaver only come on when the conditions are such that you’re not running any other programs and you are not touching your keyboard or mouse. When all of the other functions have ceased to run, theyn the screen saver will begin. In doing so, the screensaver will then wait for another prompt to stop the process – i.e. when you touch your keyboard or mouse. Then the screensaver will ask the computer if there is a password protection feature in place. If so, then the user has to put in a password in order to do anything else with the computer.
Why Use a Screensaver at All?
For many people, they might never use a screensaver because they’re always on their computer and it would never pop up. But for those who are interested, using a screensaver can make your computer workspace look more attractive. This will ensure that the computer shows that it is on, just waiting for you to return to your desk. With the password protect, you can also create a secure system whenever you are away from your desk. Screensavers can also be decorative, with the logo of your company in place so as to show this when people walk in the room.
Screensavers are a fun little toy that you might use in order to make your space look brighter and more welcoming. They are simply a process of questions between your computer and the system, until the screensaver can work or it can not. Bet you’re going to put one of these on your system now, aren’t you?
